The US Energy Department announced on Monday that it has finalized a loan of $9.63 billion to fund the construction of three new Battery manufacturing plants in Tennessee and Kentucky, to a joint venture between Ford Motor (F.US) and South Korean Battery manufacturer SK On.
The joint venture has invested over $11 billion to build three factories totaling 4 million square feet, with plans to begin production at the first factory in Kentucky in 2025 and to start production in Tennessee by the end of 2025.
