DJ Applied DNA Sciences Gets U.S. Patent >APDN
By Michael Dabaie
Applied DNA Sciences Inc. (APDN) said the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has granted it a U.S. patent entitled "Methods of Marking Cellulosic Products."
The patent covers methods of tagging man-made cellulosic fibers or materials with a nucleic acid tag during production and later authenticating the nucleic acid-tagged MMC fibers and materials.
Shares were up 2%, to $4.03, premarket.
Most MMCs are primarily derived from wood, Applied DNA said. Heightened awareness related to the sourcing of wood raw materials from endangered or ancient forests, the social and environmental concerns relating to the chemicals used in production, and the amount of energy and water used to manufacture MMCs, has led to greater oversight of the MMC industry, the company said. This requires proof these materials come from controlled and sustainable sources that can be verified by scientific evidence, Applied DNA said.
