The USA Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced on Monday local time that Paul Atkins has been sworn in as the SEC chairman, becoming the 34th chairman in the history of the Institutions.
Atkins served as a commissioner of the SEC from 2002 to 2008, and he is widely regarded as a pro-business attorney. On April 9 of this year, the USA Senate confirmed Atkins' appointment with a vote of 52 to 44.
Atkins stated in a declaration: "It is an honor for me to receive the trust and confidence of President Trump and the Senate to lead the SEC. As I return to the SEC, I am excited to collaborate with other commissioners and the professionals of the agency to advance its mission of promoting capital formation, maintaining fair, orderly, and efficient markets, and protecting investors."
It is widely expected that Atkins will lead a more crypto-friendly SEC compared to former Chairman Gary Gensler during the Biden administration.
