① The Italian Minister of Defense, Crosetto, revealed that negotiations with SpaceX regarding the Starlink project have been suspended; ② Earlier this year, the Italian government's Trade with SpaceX had received approval from the intelligence agency and the Ministry of Defense; ③ The controversy between Musk and the Polish Foreign Minister has triggered a trust crisis, and Meloni indicated that alternative solutions to Starlink may be needed.
On March 23rd, Financial Associated Press reported (Editor Zhao Hao) that Italian Minister of Defense Guido Crosetto has recently revealed that negotiations for deploying Starlink in military and government applications have been called off.
On Saturday local time (March 22nd), Crosetto stated in an interview with Italian media, "In my view, everything has been paused. Because the focus of the discussions has shifted from the Starlink project to 'personal opinions'."
"Personal opinions" here refer to the political stance of SpaceX founder Elon Musk. Crosetto mentioned that the controversy surrounding Musk has "overshadowed" the technical details.
"We are currently not discussing technical details. Only when the controversy calms down will negotiations return to the technical level," Crosetto added, "The focus remains on what is most useful and safest for the country."
Earlier this year, reports indicated that the Italian government had been in "intensive negotiations" with SpaceX over a five-year Trade worth 1.5 billion euros. At that time, sources revealed that the project had already received approval from the Italian intelligence agency and the Ministry of Defense.
Reports state that under the agreement, SpaceX would provide the Italian government with a complete set of encrypted technology for telephone and Internet services, and would also provide Communications Services for the military in the Mediterranean region, as well as satellite services for emergencies (terrorist attacks, natural disasters, etc.) in Italy.

Italian Prime Minister Meloni also once indicated that she was prepared to work with Trump. She visited Mar-a-Lago and attended Trump's inauguration. Additionally, Meloni has repeatedly praised Trump's close ally Musk as a "genius" and claimed that her "relationship with Musk is very good."
Media analysis indicates that by leveraging the Trade with SpaceX, Meloni can strengthen the ties with Musk, thus becoming a bridge between the European Union and the Trump administration, and may even seek exemptions for Italy in future USA tariff policies.
Musk's confrontation with the Polish Foreign Minister has triggered a trust crisis for SpaceX.
However, the relationship between the Italian government and SpaceX soon faced a crisis. Two weeks ago, Musk responded to other users on Social Media X, stating that the Starlink system 'has become the backbone of the Ukrainian army, and if I turn it off, their entire front will collapse.'
Previously, several insiders disclosed to the USA media that the USA had threatened to cut off Starlink services to Ukraine in order to pressure Ukraine into relinquishing key mineral resource mining rights. In response, the Polish government not only purchased additional Starlink equipment for Ukraine but also continued to pay the satellite internet subscription fees for Ukraine.
Polish Foreign Minister Sikorski responded, stating, 'If SpaceX proves to be an unreliable supplier, we will be forced to look for other suppliers.' Musk quickly replied to Sikorski, 'Be quiet, small man.'

Subsequently, USA Secretary of State Rubio also posted support for Musk, telling Sikorski, 'Without Starlink, Ukraine would have lost this war long ago, and the Russians would be at the Polish border now.' In response, Polish Prime Minister Tusk stated, 'True leadership means respecting partners and allies.'
It is important to note that before this, Musk had frequently criticized the governments of the United Kingdom and Germany, while Italy remained relatively silent. Only after the incident of 'Musk confronting the Polish Foreign Minister' did Meloni inform Italian ministers that, given the changing geopolitical environment, alternative solutions to Starlink may be necessary.
