From the rainfall in the west to the fire threat in the south, the weather changes in various regions have a significant impact on Agriculture. How will the weather trends in the coming days affect the crops?

The following is the agricultural weather advisory for the USA on Thursday, March 20, 2025, exclusively compiled by the Jinshi Futures APP.

West

In the western region, rain and snow weather is spreading inland from the northwest of The Pacific to the northern Rocky Mountains. Generally, the weather is cooler, except in the southwestern desert. By March 16, 6% of the planned Cotton planting area in Arizona has been completed.

The Great Plains

In the Great Plains region, some areas of Kansas and Nebraska still have significant snow accumulation, a result of the winter storm on Wednesday. Although the affected areas remain cold, the winds have greatly diminished, and dry weather has returned. Meanwhile, due to the approach of a new storm from the west, the threat of wildfires remains very high in the southern plateau.

Corn Belt

In the Corn Belt region, severe hail, destructive winds, and isolated tornadoes primarily occurred in Illinois and Indiana on Wednesday. These areas have turned sharply colder, experiencing mixed rain and snow earlier today. At the same time, in the upper Midwest, the areas affected by yesterday's snowstorm are now facing cold and windy weather, with temperatures generally below -6.7°C, and snow depth across the land from eastern Nebraska to southern Wisconsin reaching 15 to 30 centimeters.

Southern region

In the southern region, there is a significant wildfire threat on the east coast of Florida today, with increased wind strength ahead of the cold front accompanied by low humidity levels. At the same time, a cold front traversing the Appalachian Mountains is producing scattered showers, and noticeably colder air has arrived after the cold front.

Outlook

A low-pressure system moving toward eastern Canada will drag the cold front to the east coast later today, where thunderstorms may occur along the Mid-Atlantic coast. Although the storm-related impacts in the plains and Midwest will continue to diminish, cold and windy conditions will persist. By Friday morning, frost may push into the Southeast, affecting parts of Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi, which could impact flowering fruit and other sensitive vegetation. Meanwhile, precipitation in the Northeast – rain and wet snow – will continue through Friday. In the more western areas, stormy weather from the Pacific Northwest to the northern Rocky Mountains will last for the remainder of the week, after which the weather will trend toward warmer and drier. Elsewhere, dry weather will accompany rising temperatures in the southwestern quadrant of the country, with temperatures in the southwestern desert nearing 37.8°C early next week. During frequent breezy to windy weather, there will be a significant wildfire threat across the southern plains and surrounding areas.

The National Weather Service's 6 to 10-day weather outlook for March 25 to 29 indicates that much of the area east of the Mississippi River may experience below-normal temperatures, while southern Florida and areas from the Pacific coast to the plains will see above-normal temperatures. At the same time, precipitation across much of the USA will be near or above normal, contrasting with the dry conditions in the Southeast (excluding southern Florida) and from the Four Corners region to the central highlands. Areas most likely to experience above-normal precipitation include southern Texas and the Pacific Northwest.
