【Daily Weather Tracking】What will be the temperature and precipitation trends in the USA over the next 6 to 10 days?

Golden10 Data ·  Mar 18 22:43

With the changing weather systems, agriculture in various parts of the USA faces different challenges. How do the precipitation in the West, the dryness of the plains, the warmth of the Corn Belt, and the drought in the South affect future agricultural production?

The following is the Agriculture weather alert for the USA on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, exclusively compiled by the Jin Shi Futures APP.

West

In the west, cool and unstable weather dominates. Precipitation is falling in most inland areas, while the states along The Pacific coast have generally returned to dry weather. High winds are sweeping through parts of the southwest.

Plains

In the plains region, any precipitation is very light and is spreading eastward from southern Montana. The cold weather in the northern plains contrasts with the unusually warm conditions in the central and southern plains, with a high temperature of 29 degrees Celsius in eastern Kansas on March 18. Producers in the central and southern plains are preparing for another day of dry weather, low humidity, and gusts exceeding 96 kilometers per hour, which could lead to dust storms and rapidly spreading wildfires.

Corn Belt

In the Corn Belt, warm weather is arriving ahead of an impending storm system. However, cold conditions are still persisting from Dakota to the Great Lakes region. In the more southern areas, the high temperature on March 18 is expected to exceed 27 degrees Celsius in parts of the central Mississippi Valley. The warm weather in most of the western Corn Belt is allowing livestock producers to prepare for the snowfall and storm event expected to arrive tonight.

Southern region

In the south, dry weather accompanies a warming trend. In fact, temperatures in most areas west of the Mississippi Delta have already risen above normal levels. In Texas, as of March 16, 32% of the planned Corn planting area has been completed, along with 26% of the Sorghum planting area, reflecting the fieldwork in the southern part of the state. Local recovery efforts in the areas of the central and southeastern regions affected by recent severe thunderstorms are still ongoing.

Outlook

The storm system currently crossing the inland western regions is expected to strengthen in the central plains area on the night of March 18. Subsequently, the storm will shift northeast, expected to cross the Great Lakes area on the night of March 19. Blizzard conditions, due to wind-driven snow and temperature drops, are expected to extend from northwestern Kansas and central northern areas into southern Minnesota on the nights of March 18 and March 19. A trailing cold front will become more active on the night of March 19, potentially developing severe thunderstorms in the Mississippi River Valley and sweeping eastward. The cold front should exit the Atlantic coast on the night of March 20, although rain and snow in the northeastern regions may persist until March 21. Meanwhile, much of the central southern USA will continue to endure windy, dry weather, accompanied by dust and a sustained threat of wildfires. In the west, a series of disturbances will maintain cool, rainy weather from the Pacific Northwest to the northern Rocky Mountains, while warm, dry weather will prevail from Southern California to the southern Rocky Mountains.

The National Weather Service's 6 to 10 day outlook from March 23 to 27 shows that most areas east of the Mississippi River Valley may experience near or below normal temperatures, while southern Florida, the northern Atlantic coast, and areas from the Pacific coast to the plains will see warmer conditions above normal. Meanwhile, precipitation levels in the northern and eastern USA will be near or above normal, contrasting with the dry weather from California to the central and southern plains.
