The leader in the renewable energy Industry.$NextEra Energy (NEE.US)$Is seeking to expand the company's business in Henry Hub Natural Gas and nuclear energy generation to meet the electrical utilities demand that AI may bring.
On Friday local time (January 24), NextEra CEO John Ketchum stated in the Earnings Reports conference call that the company has partnered with energy equipment manufacturers.$GE Vernova (GEV.US)$To build power generation facilities for datacenters and factories.
NextEra has also taken the first step to restart the closed Duane Arnold nuclear power plant in Iowa. Ketchum stated, "Our idea is to pursue and target large load customers, integrating gas generation with renewable energy and battery storage in a cohesive manner."
It is understood that NextEra has two main business lines, namely Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) and NextEra Energy Resources (NEER), with FPL being the largest electric utility in Florida.

NEER is the world's largest wind and solar renewable energy generator and a leading provider of battery storage solutions. Data shows that NextEra and GE Vernova are the two most valuable publicly listed companies in renewable energy globally.

Driven by Datacenters and AI, the USA's electrical consumption is rising, which stimulates the demand for $Xinjiang Xintai Natural Gas (603393.SH)$power plants, and also rekindles interest in nuclear energy, ideas that were once unthinkable.
Rebecca Kujawa, the head of NEER, stated, "We cannot underestimate the tremendous changes that have occurred in this industry in a very short period of time—especially in the past 15 to 18 months. We have seen a significant increase in demand for Henry Hub Natural Gas."
GE Vernova executives have also stated that Datacenters prefer Henry Hub Natural Gas over intermittent renewable energies like Wind Energy, as these facilities require power supply around the clock.
Earlier this week, Scott Strazik, the CEO of GE Vernova, mentioned that the order volume for gas turbines increased more than double to 20 gigawatts last year. Strazik expects stronger order volumes by 2025.
Meanwhile, NextEra has requested USA regulators to amend the license for the Duane Arnold Nuclear Power Plant, which is the first step toward restarting the plant. NextEra revealed in its Earnings Reports that it plans to restart the reactor as early as 2028.
The Duane Arnold Nuclear Power Plant stopped running in 2020 because the customer decided to exit the power purchase agreement. In August of that year, a severe storm damaged its cooling tower, and the plant has not resumed operation since, although the reactor itself was not damaged.
In September last year, a rival of NextEra signed the largest power purchase agreement in history, which will acquire all the electricity produced by the Three Mile Island Nuclear Power Plant over the next 20 years.$Constellation Energy (CEG.US)$$Microsoft (MSFT.US)$
