The construction of the Shah Alam Stadium is expected to commence in the first quarter of this year, said Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said the construction, part of the first phase of the Shah Alam Sports Complex (KSSA) development project, is anticipated to be completed by early 2027 at the latest.
"Our vision is to transform the stadium into not just a sports hub but also a youth hub managed by the Selangor Youth Community, under the patronage of the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah, and the Selangor Sports Council.
"This development is not just about building a new stadium but also restructuring the surrounding area, which needs deeper groundworks due to frequent flooding," he said during an engagement session with Universiti Malaysia Kelantan students at Kopitiam Kita yesterday.
Amirudin added that the stadium will feature some of the most modern sports facilities in Malaysia, including full air conditioning.
"This facility will be fully air-conditioned and equipped with retractable pitch technology. For matches, the pitch can be extended, and when covered, it functions as a hall," he said.
Previously, Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI announced that the KSSA development project will span three phases and is expected to be fully completed by 2029. The first phase involves the demolition process.
MRCB Land Sdn Bhd's subsidiary Lembaran Prospek Sdn Bhd has been appointed to carry out the demolition work, while the KSSA development will be handled under separate agreements.
The stadium's demolition uses conventional methods, avoiding explosives to minimise noise, dust, and water disruptions for nearby residents.
