According to Zhitong Finance APP, OpenAI launched a search product for all users of its chatbot ChatGPT starting Monday, intensifying competition with Alphabet's (GOOGL.US) Google.
OpenAI announced on Monday at an event that the product called ChatGPT Search will be available to all users who log into the company's mobile application and website using the chatbot Account. OpenAI had previously opened the search option to paid users.
Following the big success of ChatGPT at the end of 2022, technology companies are competing to integrate generative AI into a range of services, including online search. OpenAI supporter Microsoft and Google have completely revamped their search products to include more conversational AI features.
As part of the expanded launch, OpenAI users will be able to set the feature as their default Search Engine via web browsers, the company stated. OpenAI also showcased a new option allowing users to ask questions and have the chatbot respond verbally.
This expanded search product was launched on the eighth day of the company's 12-day live product event. OpenAI used the launch event to introduce a more expensive new ChatGPT Pro subscription option and began rolling out an AI video generation tool called Sora.
