Major progress has been made on Musk's "Interstellar Base".
On December 13 local time, the world's richest person, USA entrepreneur Elon Musk, announced on the Social Media platform X that the headquarters of SpaceX will officially move to Texas, USA, and will establish a new "Starbase."
SpaceX stated that becoming a new city could help simplify the processes needed to build essential facilities and make the area a world-class living space. Analysts believe that "Starbase" may become the core of SpaceX's future interstellar transportation plans, including key missions to return to the moon and colonize Mars.
Meanwhile, Musk seems to be facing "big trouble" again. On December 12 local time, Musk's lawyer Alex Spiro wrote to SEC Chairman Gary Gensler, accusing the agency of initiating a "motivated action" against Musk and revealing that the SEC has restarted its investigation of Musk's Brain-computer Interface company Neuralink.
Musk announced
On December 13 local time, USA entrepreneur Elon Musk announced on the Social Media platform X that the headquarters of SpaceX will officially move to Texas, USA, and will establish a new "Starbase."
According to the Associated Press, Starbase is located in southern Cameron County, Texas, and is used to build and launch the heavy Launch Vehicle "Starship."
On December 12 local time, SpaceX wrote to local USA officials requesting a referendum to transform its facility base located in southern Cameron County, Texas—Starbase—into a new registered city.
The base is located near the Mexican border and is where SpaceX manufactures and launches the Falcon rockets carrying large Starships. According to the company, this petition was jointly submitted by the residents of Starbase.
Starbase General Manager Kathryn Lueders stated that in order to cultivate the workforce needed for the rapid development and manufacturing of Starships, SpaceX needs to develop Starbase into a Community. This is why the company is requesting Cameron County to hold an election to make Starbase a new city.
The Cameron County judge stated that this is the first official petition submitted by SpaceX. Local legal and election management departments will review the petition to determine whether it meets all statutory requirements before taking further action.
As early as 2021, Musk had proposed the idea of transforming the Starbase into a city. Musk mentioned on Social Media at the time that a Starbase city would be created in Texas.
Musk moved SpaceX's headquarters from California to Texas, and the establishment of the Starbase city is likely part of the relocation plan.
SpaceX states that becoming a new city can help streamline the processes required to build necessary facilities and make the area a world-class place to live.
Earlier this year, an organization named "Save RGV" sued SpaceX, accusing it of violating environmental regulations and dumping sewage into nearby bays. SpaceX responded that the local government did not find any illegal activities after review, and the lawsuit holds no substantial significance.
Analysts believe that SpaceX's formal application to incorporate the 'Starbase' into the city plan is beneficial for SpaceX to further consolidate its leading position in the Global commercial aviation market and upgrade the space industry cluster centered around Starship. The 'Starbase' will serve as the research, testing, and production center for SpaceX's Starship program, potentially becoming the core of SpaceX's future interstellar Transportation plans, including key missions for returning to the Moon and colonizing Mars.
At the same time, by simplifying the urbanization process, SpaceX is able to accelerate the construction of high-quality public facilities such as roads, medical, education, and housing, making the Starship base a place suitable for living and working, attracting outstanding engineers, scientists, and technical talents from around the globe.
Valuation exceeds 2500 billion yuan.
According to the latest news, Elon Musk's SpaceX and investors have reached an agreement to purchase up to 1.25 billion USD of internal shares, at a price of 185 USD per share, far higher than the 112 USD per share valuation less than three months ago, an increase of 65%.
As a result, SpaceX's valuation has soared to 350 billion USD (approximately 2500 billion yuan), making the company the most valuable private startup in the world.
It is worth mentioning that in November of this year, SpaceX's valuation was only 255 billion USD, and earlier this year, SpaceX's valuation was 210 billion USD. Analysts attribute the surge in valuation mainly to the positive market sentiment after the USA elections and the recent numerous advancements by SpaceX in the rocket launch field.
On December 11 local time, Elon Musk commented on SpaceX's valuation and buybacks, stating that SpaceX has reduced buybacks to allow new investors to join. Very few investors would be willing to sell SpaceX shares at a valuation of 350 billion USD.
The surge in SpaceX's valuation also signifies its key role in the Aviation Industry, especially with its Starlink satellite internet service and reusable rocket technology, helping the company secure ongoing Substantial Orders in the defense and aviation sectors. This has also reinforced market confidence in technology-driven companies, particularly in the space and satellite technology fields.
In a previous speech, Musk boldly claimed that one day, SpaceX's market cap would exceed one trillion USD.
Driven by the soaring valuation of SpaceX, Musk's wealth has surged. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, as of December 11 local time, the world's richest person and Tesla CEO Musk's net worth has reached 447 billion USD (approximately 3,250 billion RMB), making him the "first person" in the world with a net worth over 400 billion USD, surpassing second-placed Jeff Bezos by 198 billion USD and accumulating an increase of 218 billion USD since the beginning of the year.
Musk's "big trouble".
On December 12 local time, Musk’s lawyer Alex Spiro wrote to outgoing SEC Chairman Gary Gensler, accusing the agency of launching a "motivated action" against Musk and revealed that the SEC has resumed its investigation into Musk’s brain-computer interface company Neuralink.
According to the letter, the SEC demands that Musk accept a settlement agreement within 48 hours and pay a fine, or face "multiple charges." These charges are related to Musk's stock investment activities prior to the 2022 acquisition of Twitter (now "X"), involving the legality of trade timing and disclosure information.
The letter mentioned that the charges stem from a years-long investigation, and the SEC has recently issued a subpoena to Musk's lawyer, requiring him to provide testimony. Alex Spiro stated that he has explicitly refused to cooperate and accused the agency's actions of having "political motives."
Musk also posted on Social Media the letter his lawyer sent to Gary Gensler, with the caption "Gary, how can you do this to me," and included a crying emoji.
Alex Spiro also demanded clarification on who was directing the SEC's actions in the letter.
Alex Spiro emphasized that the SEC's ongoing six-year "harassment" of Musk and his associated companies has deviated from its original intention of seeking the truth and has become an improper pressure tactic.
Currently, the SEC has not commented on this.
In addition, the letter states that the SEC has also rebooted the investigation into Neuralink, a Brain-computer Interface company owned by Musk.
This fall, the animal rights organization 'Committee of Responsible Medicine' and four USA Congress members requested the SEC to investigate Neuralink, accusing it of securities fraud through misleading advertising.
