Possible Bearish Signals With CareDx Insiders Disposing Stock
Possible Bearish Signals With CareDx Insiders Disposing Stock
In the last year, many CareDx, Inc (NASDAQ:CDNA) insiders sold a substantial stake in the company which may have sparked shareholders' attention. When analyzing insider transactions, it is usually more valuable to know whether insiders are buying versus knowing if they are selling, as the latter sends an ambiguous message. However, when multiple insiders sell stock over a specific duration, shareholders should take notice as that could possibly be a red flag.
While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.
CareDx Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
The insider, Alexander Johnson, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$1.1m worth of shares at a price of US$33.83 each. We generally don't like to see insider selling, but the lower the sale price, the more it concerns us. The good news is that this large sale was at well above current price of US$25.64. So it is hard to draw any strong conclusion from it.

Insider Ownership Of CareDx
Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. It appears that CareDx insiders own 2.5% of the company, worth about US$33m. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.
