Possible Bearish Signals With Ross Stores Insiders Disposing Stock
Possible Bearish Signals With Ross Stores Insiders Disposing Stock
Many Ross Stores, Inc. (NASDAQ:ROST) insiders ditched their stock over the past year, which may be of interest to the company's shareholders. When evaluating insider transactions, knowing whether insiders are buying is usually more beneficial than knowing whether they are selling, as the latter can be open to many interpretations. However, shareholders should take a deeper look if several insiders are selling stock over a specific time period.
While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.
The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Ross Stores
In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the President & Chief Capability Officer, Michael Kobayashi, sold US$2.0m worth of shares at a price of US$147 per share. That means that an insider was selling shares at around the current price of US$141. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. In this case, the big sale took place at around the current price, so it's not too bad (but it's still not a positive).

Does Ross Stores Boast High Insider Ownership?
For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. It's great to see that Ross Stores insiders own 2.0% of the company, worth about US$954m. Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.
So What Do The Ross Stores Insider Transactions Indicate?
The fact that there have been no Ross Stores insider transactions recently certainly doesn't bother us. It's heartening that insiders own plenty of stock, but we'd like to see more insider buying, since the last year of Ross Stores insider transactions don't fill us with confidence. Of course, the future is what matters most. So if you are interested in Ross Stores, you should check out this free report on analyst forecasts for the company.
