Braskem, the largest producer of thermoplastic resins in the Americas, is among the top three companies in the 2024 Circular Economy Companies ranking by Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BloombergNEF). The second-place ranking among the 20 global plastic producers reinforces the company's commitment to sustainable development.
The ranking evaluated the circular economy goals of 40 companies, including 20 brand owners and 20 plastic producers. Braskem's prominent position reflects its continuous efforts to increase the use of recycled and bio-based materials in various industries and applications. According to BloombergNEF, several factors contributed to the company's recognition: strategic partnerships formed along the value chain, transparency in activities, sustainable metrics, and ambitious goals.
"The ranking highlights the results of our entire team's commitment to sustainability and innovation. These points are at the core of our business strategy. Additionally, it reflects the significant progress we have made in increasing the circularity of our products and our relentless pursuit of solutions that support a low-carbon circular economy," says Roberto Bischoff, CEO of Braskem.
The BloombergNEF report also highlighted the challenges the industry has faced in achieving its ambitious 2030 goals. Braskem's proactive approach positioned it among the leaders in the global transition to an economy that addresses the challenges of climate change and plastic waste.
Braskem's circular economy strategy focuses on developing products and solutions aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This includes developing technologies for mechanical and chemical recycling, as well as expanding the use of renewable raw materials and biopolymers in the market.
