According to 36Kr, Amazon's (AMZN.US) cloud computing department AWS announced on Thursday that it plans to invest 1.2 billion euros (1.3 billion dollars) in Italy over the next five years, further expanding its datacenter business in the country. This plan is part of the tech giant's efforts to enhance its cloud computing services in Europe. As per the plan, AWS launched its first cloud region in Italy in 2020, with an expected investment of 2 billion euros by 2029. Local media reported on Thursday that AWS will expand its datacenter business in Milan.

The company stated in a declaration that by 2029, this investment will support up to 5500 job positions throughout the entire AWS datacenter supply chain. It added that employment opportunities will include construction, facilities maintenance, engineering, telecommunications, and a broader range of local economic sectors.

In May of this year, AWS was in negotiations with the Italian government to invest billions of euros to expand its operations in Italy. The company's website shows that its clients in Italy include luxury auto manufacturer Ferrari (RACE.US) and the insurance company Assicurazioni Generali.

In May of this year, Amazon announced an investment of 15.7 billion euros to build a datacenter in the Aragon region of northeastern Spain, and plans to invest 7.8 billion euros in Germany by 2040.
