Ericsson ·  Oct 23 12:00

Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC), a global leader in telecommunications, today announced the launch of the "Ericsson Hackathon 2024" that aims to empower digital transformation in Indonesia with Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI) and 5G technology. This is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Industry, PIDI 4.0, Ministry of Communication and Digital, Innovation & Learning Centers, Swiss German University, and KORIKA.

The focus of this Hackathon program is on Smart Manufacturing, an approach that integrates advanced technologies such as IoT, big data analytics, robotics and AI to optimize manufacturing processes and enable data-driven decision-making. Leveraging the power of AI and 5G, participants will come up with innovative ideas to enhance automation, predictive maintenance, quality control, and supply chain management in manufacturing. During the contest period, the participants will not only gain hands-on experience of working with advanced technologies but will also benefit from mentorship by industry experts. The last submission of entries for the Hackathon will be on October 31,2024 with the final winners being announced on November 28, 2024. Prizes worth USD3200 will be given to the winners of the Hackathon.

The winners for the hackathon will be judged by eminent jury members based on technical, business and design criteria. Business criteria includes factors such as identification of the problem, the solution itself and market fit while the implementation plan includes detailed plan for market potential, financial feasibility, and implementation strategy. The technical criteria includes aspects like Code cleanliness and complexity, technology understanding and utilization; functionality, robustness and the end product. The design criteria include aspects include design rationale, aesthetics and UX as well as solution creativity.

Krishna Patil, Head of Ericsson Indonesia, states that "At Ericsson, we are committed to supporting Indonesia's digital transformation and empowering the country to unlock the potential of Industry 4.0. This Hackathon embodies our commitment to innovation in Indonesia by shaping the future of industries, especially in the manufacturing sector, by harnessing the power of Gen AI and advanced 5G technology."

Saiful Bahri, Director of PIDI 4.0, said "While this era offers many opportunities, it also presents significant challenges, one of which is the need to integrate new technologies such as AI and 5G connectivity that require large investments, cultural changes, and increased skills and creativity. The Ericsson Hackathon 2024 is expected to be the answer to these challenges. PIDI 4.0 is working to take a role as a facilitator to build a digital innovation ecosystem to build digital entrepreneurs who optimize technology applications to overcome challenges in the manufacturing industry."

Bonifasius Wahyu Pudjianto, Director Digital Economy, said "We hope that through this Hackhaton, innovators from various generations, especially young people, will emerge. The goal is to create innovations and solutions that bring impact, benefits, and added value to the people of Indonesia."

The Manufacturing sector is one of top priority sectors of Indonesia's digital transformation agenda. However, the transition to Industry 4.0 will depend on a successful adoption of many new technologies. 5G offers reliable connectivity without cumbersome and costly cabling, thereby enabling a factory set-up with two-way communication between machines and workers in a modular and flexible setting.

The full deployment of 5G in Indonesia will be a catalyst for digital transformation and Industry 4.0, thereby creating significant economic value for the country. According to an Ericsson 5G for Business Study, 5G enabled digitalization will offer a revenue potential of USD 8.49 Billion for Indonesian operators, with Manufacturing sector showing the maximum potential. By addressing Indonesia's manufacturing challenges and unlocking new opportunities for optimization and innovation, the Ericsson Hackathon 2024 will play a pivotal role in shaping Indonesia's manufacturing future.

The Ericsson Hackathon 2024 participants will have access to mentoring sessions from industry experts, along with workshops focused on developing technical, design, and business skills. These will help participants refine their solutions and gain insights from experienced professionals."
