Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "the Company") has decided to trial-introduce the newly announced satellite network service by Inmarsat Maritime, a group company of Viasat (hereinafter referred to as "Inmarsat", headquartered in the UK), to the Company's vessels. This service enables high-speed and always-on ship-to-shore communication, digitalization for ship operation and environmental response, as well as deepening crew welfare. The trial introduction is scheduled to begin in October.

Released in May 2024, Inmarsat's NexusWave is a unique multi-dimensional network featuring high-speed connectivity, unlimited data usage, a global communication network, and advanced infrastructure that ensures "design security". This service seamlessly integrates multiple high-speed networks in real-time, combines Global Xpress (GX) Ka-band, Low Earth Orbit (LEO) services, and LTE services used in coastal areas for communication when available, further enhancing communication resilience by combining multiple L bands to strengthen communication connections, providing "integrated communication". This enables high-speed and stable always-on connectivity, while NexusWave is characterized by having enterprise-level firewall security features.

Our group will continue to strengthen shipboard and ship-to-shore communication infrastructure to create a safe and comfortable environment for crew members, thereby contributing to the provision of higher quality marine transportation.

Comments from Akihiro Fujimaru, Executive Officer of Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha
"In recent years, the amount of data communications has been increasing to enhance safety and quality. Therefore, there is a demand for global-scale communication connectivity services that are fast and highly reliable. In addition, high-speed internet connection significantly contributes to the reform of on-board work styles and the realization of autonomous ship navigation. Maintaining connections with family and friends is extremely important for protecting the happiness of the crew members. NexusWave expects to meet these needs in the future, especially with the upcoming launch of the high-capacity ViaSat-3 Ka-band satellite service. Through this technology, we will strengthen our efforts towards digitalization in the future."

Comments from Ben Palmer OBE, President of Inmarsat Maritime
"Kawasaki Kisen, a logistics company with a focus on marine transportation, deciding to introduce NexusWave's trial is truly an honor. The partnership between Inmarsat and Kawasaki Kisen supports the success of more efficient operations and meets Kawasaki Kisen's long-term strategic needs. Inmarsat is committed to providing a more robust, resilient, and reliable connectivity solution. Kawasaki Kisen's strategic foresight has become clearer by quickly trialing Inmarsat's high-capacity global services. Inmarsat aims to maintain and enhance its competitiveness by utilizing advanced technologies."
