Potential Raffles Education Limited (SGX:NR7) shareholders may wish to note that the Founder, Hua Seng Chew, recently bought S$317k worth of stock, paying S$0.041 for each share. While that's a very decent purchase to our minds, it was proportionally a bit modest, boosting their holding by just 1.7%.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Raffles Education

In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when insider Gim Lian Chung bought S$638k worth of shares at a price of S$0.046 per share. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at above the current price of S$0.043. Their view may have changed since then, but at least it shows they felt optimistic at the time. To us, it's very important to consider the price insiders pay for shares. Generally speaking, it catches our eye when insiders have purchased shares at above current prices, as it suggests they believed the shares were worth buying, even at a higher price.

Insider Ownership

Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. It's great to see that Raffles Education insiders own 59% of the company, worth about S$35m. Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.

So What Do The Raffles Education Insider Transactions Indicate?

It's certainly positive to see the recent insider purchase. We also take confidence from the longer term picture of insider transactions. But we don't feel the same about the fact the company is making losses. Once you factor in the high insider ownership, it certainly seems like insiders are positive about Raffles Education. Nice! So while it's helpful to know what insiders are doing in terms of buying or selling, it's also helpful to know the risks that a particular company is facing. For example, Raffles Education has 2 warning signs (and 1 which can't be ignored) we think you should know about.
