Shimadzu Corporation (Headquarters: Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture, President and CEO: Yasunori Yamamoto, hereinafter referred to as Shimadzu Corporation) and the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology group (National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President: Kazuhiko Ishimura, hereinafter referred to as AIST) Solutions Co., Ltd. (President and CEO: Seiji Osaka) established the Shimadzu Corporation-AIST Advanced Solution Cooperation Research Lab on October 1st at AIST (Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture). The lab will be established for a period of 3 years.
Shimadzu Corporation aims for the pursuit of planetary health (health of people and the Earth) in its medium-term management plan, under the slogan of becoming an innovative company that solves social issues together with partners worldwide. The National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology group is the largest public research institution in Japan with comprehensive knowledge of analytical measurement and cutting-edge technology. By combining science, technology, and marketing, they are accelerating the social implementation of research achievements. Since 2018, they have been working together under a comprehensive co-creation type technology consulting contract, promoting multiple joint research projects. With the establishment of the cooperation research lab, they aim to create innovative products and services and jointly address social issues.
The Cooperation Research Lab will focus on the development of innovative technologies and products aimed at planetary health and international standardization. They will initially work on two research projects. In the first theme, "International Standardization of Advanced Analytical Measurement Methods," they aim to strategically contribute to the formation of international standards and regulations to enhance global competitiveness. The second theme, "Establishment of a New Microorganism Exploration System," focuses on developing efficient methods and systems for rapidly exploring useful microorganisms to enhance agriculture, pharmaceuticals, food, healthcare, biotechnology, and other related fields. In the future, they will continue exploring themes that can generate synergy through the cooperation research lab and expand their research fields.
