Insiders At SoFi Technologies Sold US$4.0m In Stock, Alluding To Potential Weakness

Simply Wall St ·  Sep 24 18:12

The fact that multiple SoFi Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:SOFI) insiders offloaded a considerable amount of shares over the past year could have raised some eyebrows amongst investors. When analyzing insider transactions, it is usually more valuable to know whether insiders are buying versus knowing if they are selling, as the latter sends an ambiguous message. However, if numerous insiders are selling, shareholders should investigate more.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At SoFi Technologies

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the insider, Aaron Webster, for US$1.7m worth of shares, at about US$8.08 per share. So we know that an insider sold shares at around the present share price of US$7.92. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. In this case, the big sale took place at around the current price, so it's not too bad (but it's still not a positive).

Happily, we note that in the last year insiders paid US$1.3m for 198.70k shares. On the other hand they divested 503.17k shares, for US$4.0m. Over the last year we saw more insider selling of SoFi Technologies shares, than buying. The fact that there have been no SoFi Technologies insider transactions recently certainly doesn't bother us. It's heartening that insiders own plenty of stock, but we'd like to see more insider buying, since the last year of SoFi Technologies insider transactions don't fill us with confidence. While it's good to be aware of what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision.
