At the closing of the market on the 24th, the number of rising stocks in the Nikkei average composition was 142 stocks, with 81 stocks falling and 2 stocks unchanged.

On the 23rd, the U.S. stock market rose. The Dow Jones rose by 61.29 points (+0.15%) to 42,124.65, the Nasdaq rose by 25.95 points (+0.14%) to 17,974.27, and the S&P 500 closed at 5,718.57, up 16.02 points (+0.28%). Expectations of additional rate cuts within the year led to buying interest. Despite a momentary setback due to a rise in long-term interest rates following better-than-expected September services industry PMI data, the market recovered with buying driven by expectations of a soft landing and comments from Federal Reserve Board (FRB) officials not ruling out substantial additional rate cuts, limiting downward pressure. The market rallied towards the end, maintaining a positive trend with the Dow setting new all-time highs for consecutive days.

Following the rise in US stocks, the Tokyo market opened with a buying preference after the consecutive holidays. Although there were moments when the Nikkei average temporarily exceeded the 38,291 yen level where the 75-day moving average line is located, the overall decline in semiconductor stocks led to a narrowing of the gains. After the buying spree, the Nikkei average entered a consolidation phase around the 38,000 yen level.

The closing Nikkei average on the previous business day increased by 216.68 yen (+0.57%) to 37,940.59 yen. The trading volume on the TSE Prime market was 1,696.99 million shares. The trading value was 4301.4 billion yen. In terms of industry sectors, marine transportation, insurance, electrical and gas, nonferrous metals, precision instruments, etc., saw gains, while air transportation, land transportation, pharmaceuticals, services, retail trade, etc., experienced declines. The percentage of stocks that rose on the TSE Prime market was 53.3%, compared to 43.3% of declining stocks.

The top contributor to the rise was TDK <6762>, pushing the Nikkei average up by about 37 yen with a single stock. The second top contributor was Chugai Pharmaceutical <4519>, followed by SoftBank Group <9984>, NTT Data Group <9613>, Sony Group <6758>, Fast Retailing <9983>, Terumo <4543>, among others.

On the other hand, the top contributor to the decline was Toho Electric <8035>, pushing the Nikkei average down by about 22 yen with a single stock. The second top contributor was Daiichi Sankyo <4568>, followed by Nitori Holdings <9843>, Laser Tech <6920>, Eisai <4523>, Disco <6146>, Recruit Holdings <6098>, among others.
