The Internet Service Providers Association in Brazil said on Wednesday that Elon Musk's social media platform, X, bypassed Brazil's ban on social media networks through automatic software updates.

According to the Financial APP, the Internet Service Providers Association in Brazil said on Wednesday that Elon Musk's social media platform, X, bypassed Brazil's ban on social media networks through automatic software updates.

After a conflict with Musk, a judge from the Supreme Court of Brazil ordered the blocking of the platform. Overnight, many people in the most populous country in Latin America suddenly regained access to the platform. On Wednesday, Brazilian users found that the X platform on their phones suddenly returned to normal, and they speculated whether the ruling had been reversed.

The Brazilian Internet and Telecommunications Providers Association (ABRINT) explained later that X changed its structure in its update and used IP addresses related to the San Francisco cybersecurity company, Cloudflare (NET.US). This internet infrastructure provider works with millions of websites to help route traffic.

In a statement, ABRINT said that the structural changes in X "made blocking the application more complex." The organization stated that in the previous X system, the platform used specific IP addresses, which allowed internet companies to identify the source of the data.

ABRINT added that many of the IP addresses currently used by X are "shared with other legitimate services, such as banks and large internet platforms, making it impossible to block IPs without affecting other services."

"Return as soon as possible."

The X platform stated that the restoration of access in Brazil is "unintentional and temporary," resulting from the company changing its network provider after being banned in the country.

In a statement, X spokesperson said, "Although we expect the platform to be inaccessible in Brazil again soon, we will continue to work with the Brazilian government to restore service to the Brazilian people as soon as possible."

Cloudflare declined to comment. The Supreme Court did not respond to the request for comment, but according to local media reports, the Supreme Court has asked the Brazilian telecommunications regulatory agency Anatel to explain the reason for X's unauthorized return.

In a statement, Anatel said that it "continues to monitor the blockade. Monitoring results are reported directly to the Supreme Court."

In August of this year, following Elon Musk's refusal to appoint a legal representative in Brazil and restrictions on certain accounts, Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, who leads a campaign against fake news and hate speech, banned X.

Elon Musk has tried to describe the efforts of the judge as a dangerous example of state overreach and an attack on freedom of speech, while supporters of Moraes argue that this campaign is necessary to clean up the internet.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Brazilian telecommunications regulatory agency Anatel stated that the Supreme Court's decision to ban X remained unchanged.
