Orion Insiders Placed Bullish Bets Worth US$1.06m

Usually, when one insider buys stock, it might not be a monumental event. But when multiple insiders are buying like they did in the case of Orion S.A. (NYSE:OEC), that sends out a positive message to the company's shareholders.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

Orion Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The CEO & Executive Director Corning Painter made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$350k worth of shares at a price of US$18.01 each. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at above the current price of US$17.20. Their view may have changed since then, but at least it shows they felt optimistic at the time. In our view, the price an insider pays for shares is very important. It is generally more encouraging if they paid above the current price, as it suggests they saw value, even at higher levels.

In the last twelve months insiders purchased 56.50k shares for US$1.1m. On the other hand they divested 8.31k shares, for US$201k. Overall, Orion insiders were net buyers during the last year. Does Orion Boast High Insider Ownership?

Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. It appears that Orion insiders own 2.5% of the company, worth about US$24m. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.
