Fisco Japan ·  Sep 6 07:32

ADR (American depositary receipt) Japanese stocks such as DISCO <6146>, Advantest <6857>, SMC <6273>, Tokyo Electron <8035>, HOYA <7741>, Renesas <6723>, Chugai Pharmaceutical <4519>, etc. rose compared to the Tokyo Stock Exchange (converted at 143.42 yen per dollar), with overall buying dominant. The settlement value of Chicago Nikkei 225 futures was 37,010 yen, 400 yen higher than the Osaka day session comparison.

The U.S. stock market was mixed. The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended the session at 40,755.75, down 219.22 points, while the Nasdaq finished the session at 17,127.66, up 43.36 points. Concerns about the labor market and economic slowdown due to weaker-than-expected August ADP employment data led to selling pressure after the market opened, causing a decline. However, concerns about economic slowdown eased when the August ISM Non-Manufacturing Index unexpectedly improved, and the market stabilized. However, the Dow continued to fall and the decline expanded due to profit-taking selling ahead of the U.S. employment data, which will be released on the 6th. The Nasdaq, supported by a rebound in semiconductor manufacturer Nvidia (NVDA), rose slightly and closed mixed.

In the New York foreign exchange market on the 5th, the dollar-yen rate fell to 142.85 yen, then rose to 144.23 yen, and closed at 143.42 yen. As the growth of the August ADP employment data in the U.S. slowed unexpectedly, reaching its lowest level in three and a half years, the selling of the dollar accelerated along with the decline in long-term interest rates, incorporating a substantial interest rate cut by the Federal Reserve (FRB). However, pessimistic views of the labor market eased as last week's initial jobless claims declined more than expected. Additionally, the unexpected increase in the August ISM Non-Manufacturing Index led to a broader view that consumption and the economy were resilient, and interest rates stabilized, prompting buying of the dollar. The euro-dollar rate rose to 1.1120 dollars, then fell to 1.1075 dollars, and closed at 1.1111 dollars.

NYMEX October crude oil futures showed a slight decline (NYMEX crude oil October futures closing price: $69.15, down $0.05).
