The US stock market on the 12th was mixed. The Dow Jones average closed at 39,357.01 (-0.36%) down 140.53 dollars from the previous day, the Nasdaq closed at 16,780.61 (+0.21%) up 35.31 points, and the S&P 500 closed at 5,344.39 (+0.004%) up 0.23 points. After the market opened based on expectations of a soft landing, it rose. However, there were reports that geopolitical risks had risen due to a possible imminent retaliatory attack by Iran against Israel, leading to selling and accelerating the decline. The purchase of undervalued semiconductor stocks like Nvidia pushed the Nasdaq index to remain steady, while the Dow also saw adjustment selling before the release of an important inflation index, which caused the decline to widen and end mixed.

The Tokyo market opened with a buying trend in view of factors such as the temporary weakening of the yen to over 148 yen to the dollar, and the Nikkei average recovered the 36000 yen level due to buying of certain semiconductor stocks. After filling a gap in the chart (from 35,849.77 yen to 35,880.15 yen) that had been open since August 2, investor sentiment improved, and the Nikkei average extended gains, closing at a high point with the TOPIX.

At the closing bell, the Nikkei average was up 1207.51 yen or 3.45% from the previous trading day to 36,232.51 yen, with a trading volume of 2.09376 billion shares and trading value of 4.9725 trillion yen on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Prime Market. While insurance, electric appliances, securities and commodity futures trading, marine transportation, and nonferrous metals rose, only air transportation fell. Of the listed stocks on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Prime Market, 81.5% rose and 17.2% fell.
