Two polls released on Thursday both showed that in swing states that are crucial to the US election, Vice President Harris has a higher approval rating than President Biden, and has narrowed the gap between her and Republican presidential candidate Trump.

According to the Emerson College/Hill poll, Trump's approval rating leads Harris in four key states, Arizona (49% to 44%), Georgia (48% to 46%), Michigan (46% to 45%), and Pennsylvania (48% to 46%). In Wisconsin, the approval ratings for both are tied at 47%.

Although her overall approval rating still lags behind that of Trump, Harris’s approval ratings exceed those of Biden in five key states. Biden announced his withdrawal last Sunday and endorsed Harris, who began campaigning this week.

According to a poll by The New York Times and Siena College, Harris performs better than Biden against Trump. Based on this poll, among registered voters, Trump leads Harris by a support rate of 48% to 46%. In a poll three weeks ago, Trump led Biden by as much as 8 percentage points, 49% to 41%.

Due to Biden's poor performance in the first TV debate, his election prospects for the 2024 US presidential election have plummeted, and Democrats are worried that if they continue to let Biden compete against Trump, not only may they lose the White House, but they may also lose further control of Congress. Under the pressure of Democrats over the past month, Biden finally chose to withdraw from the election.

At present, it seems almost certain that Harris will become the Democratic presidential candidate. The current question is who she will choose as her running mate.

Some candidates have emerged, including Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, US Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and Arizona Senator Mark Kelly.
