The head of Onvo, a sub-brand of Nio (NYSE: NIO), said the new brand's first model, the L60, will be launched in late September, differing from a previous media report that mentioned September 10.

Onvo will launch the L60 in late September, including an announcement of pricing, the brand's president Ai Tiecheng said in a live video screaming today.

The Onvo L60 will be ready for customers to test drive on the day of the launch, and deliveries will begin about a week after that, which is the end of September, Ai said.

Ai is leading his team to test the L60 in Turpan, Xinjiang, to verify the model's performance in hot weather.

Onvo is yet to unveil the interior details of the L60, and Ai said on the live streaming that the brand will unveil them at a better occasion within a month.

Nio officially launched the Onvo brand on May 15, which is a sub-brand internally codenamed Alps and aimed at the mass market. The electric vehicle (EV) maker also has a sub-brand internally codenamed Firefly, which is aimed at the lower-priced market.

The Onvo L60 made its debut on May 15 and became available for pre-order at a price of RMB 219,900 ($30,460) including the battery.

The model will officially go on sale and begin deliveries in September, Onvo said at the time.

Local media outlet Internet Info Agency said in a report on June 19 that the Onvo L60 would be officially launched on September 10.

The information revealed by Ai today means that the model's official launch will be a little later than what was previously reported.

The Onvo L60's pre-sale price is exactly RMB 30,000 less than the Tesla Model Y's current starting price in China, aiming to target potential Tesla customers.

The Model Y is one of the best-selling models in the world and is also popular in China.

In the first half of the year, the Model Y sold 207,817 vehicles in China, up 1.91 percent year-on-year, contributing to 74.67 percent of Tesla's sales in China, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

Tesla's other locally produced model, the Model 3, sold 70,500 vehicles in China in the first half of the year, down 21.82 percent year-on-year.
