The Hong Kong stock market was flat today, with the Hang Seng Index opening up 13 points, rising 79 points to 17,807 before falling back and falling 69 points to 17,658. It rose 11 points or 0.1% for the whole day to close at 17,739. The national index fell 19 points or 0.3% to close at 6,297 points. The Hang Seng Tech Index rose 18 points or 0.5% to close at 3,640 points. The total turnover of the market for the whole day was 104.957 billion yuan, with a net inflow of 3.155 billion yuan and a net outflow of 0.878 billion yuan in southbound trading through the Shanghai-Hong Kong and Shenzhen-Hong Kong Stock Connect programs.

In the technology sector, Tencent (00700.HK) fell 1.6% to HKD 371.8, while Alibaba (09988.HK), Meituan (03690.HK), NetEase (09999.HK), and Kuaishou (01024.HK) rose 1.1% to 1.4%, and Xiaomi (01810.HK) and JD.com (09618.HK) rose 2.7% and 2.1%, respectively. Baidu (09888.HK) rose 0.5%. Phone component stocks fell, BYD Electronic (00285.HK) and Cowell (01415.HK) fell 6.9% and 7%, while AAC Technologies (02018.HK) and Truly International (02382.HK) fell 4.2% and 3.3%. In the chip sector, SMIC (00981.HK) and Hua Hong Semiconductor (01347.HK) fell 5.2% and 5.9%.

Medical platform stocks surged, with Ali Health (00241.HK) and Ping An Good Doctor (01833.HK) up 8.6% and 9.6%, respectively, and JD Health (06618.HK) up 4.4%. Pharmaceuticals rose, with China Biologic Products (01177.HK) and Hengrui Therapeutics (03692.HK) up over 4%, while Wuxi AppTec (02359.HK), Innovent Biologics (01801.HK), and Pharmaron (03759.HK) rose 3% to 3.7%.

Electric vehicle stocks Ideal (02015.HK), NIO (09866.HK), and Xpeng (09868.HK) rose 2.4% to 3.7%, Linglong (09863.HK) rose 6%, and BYD (01211.HK) fell 0.3%. Consumer and domestic demand stocks rebounded, with Li Ning (02331.HK), Mengniu (02319.HK), China Duty Free (01880.HK), and U-PIs (00220.HK) up 4.5% to 6%.

China Resources Gas (01193.HK) and local real estate stocks China Overseas Land & Investment (00688.HK), Greenland Holdings (03333.HK), and New World Development (0017.HK) rose by over 2%. In the resource and metal sector, Zijin Mining (02899.HK) and Jiangxi Copper (00358.HK) fell 4.6% and 4.9%, while Chalco (02600.HK), MMG (01208.HK), and Luomu Group (03993.HK) fell 6.6% to 7.8%. In the power sector, CGN Power (01816.HK) fell 6.6%, while Huadian Power International (00902.HK), Datang International Power Generation (00991.HK), and Huadian Power International (01071.HK) fell 3.7% to 4.8%. Times Electric (03898.HK) fell 6.6% in railway stocks.

Real estate stocks Vanke (02202.HK) and Green City (03900.HK) rose by more than 4%, while Yuexiu Property (00123.HK) and Longfor (00960.HK) rose 3.2% and 2.9%, respectively. Cement stocks Conch Cement (00914.HK) and CR Building Materials Technology (01313.HK) rose 2.5% and 3.3%, respectively.

In the financial sector, HSBC (00005.HK) has appointed EQuADRAT as Group CEO and will take office on September 2. For the whole day, HSBC rose 0.1% to HKD 67.2, while HKEX (00388.HK) and AIA (01299.HK) rose 0.5% and 1.8%, respectively, while China Life (02628.HK) and Taiping Insurance (02601.HK) rose 2.6% and 4%.
