From what we can see, insiders were net sellers in American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings, Inc.'s (NYSE:AXL ) during the past 12 months. That is, insiders sold the stock in greater numbers than they purchased it.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the Senior Vice President of Human Resources & Sustainability, Terri Kemp, for US$320k worth of shares, at about US$8.00 per share. We generally don't like to see insider selling, but the lower the sale price, the more it concerns us. It's of some comfort that this sale was conducted at a price well above the current share price, which is US$6.89. So it may not shed much light on insider confidence at current levels. Terri Kemp was the only individual insider to sell over the last year.
