Several areas in Wong Tai Sin district experienced power outages starting from around 8pm last night, lasting for nearly five hours and affecting about 2,250 customers. Chairman of the Environmental Affairs Panel of the Legislative Council, Liu Guoxun, said on a radio program that CLP Power (00002.HK) needs to thoroughly investigate and account for the consecutive power accidents, including whether they involve aging or human factors, and provide compensation to affected households and businesses.

He believed that the current threshold for the penalty mechanism for power outages is too high. In this incident, about 4 hours power outage and more than 2,000 households were affected. The total power outage time was far from the threshold of 1,500 minutes. He urged the authorities and the two power companies to review the mechanism. Even if this incident did not reach the threshold for the penalty mechanism, CLP Power should consider compensation, such as issuing gift vouchers to affected households and businesses like they did for the previous outage in Tuen Mun.
