In its 2023 annual business report, Macau Light Rail Transit Co., Ltd. disclosed that its total passenger carried was about 2.47 million in 2023, an increase of 404% year-on-year. The number of train trips provided was about 60,500, an increase of 49% year-on-year.
In terms of revenue, the total revenue of Macau Light Rail Transit in 2023 was 773 million Macau dollars (MOP) with an annual increase of 93,372,600 MOP. Among them, ticket revenue was 13,555,900 MOP. The company explained that the increase in revenue was mainly due to the resumption of normal ticket prices for the Taipa line of the light rail in 2023, the continuous increase in daily passenger volume, and the operation services provided by the company to the Ma Kok Station extension of the Taipa line, which significantly increased operating revenue by 19,121,600 MOP.
Macau Light Rail Transit stated that in order to promote the goal of taking over the 'Assistance to Macau Light Rail System Taipa Line Operating and Maintenance Services Contract' this year, the company is gradually taking over some of the business to ensure the stability and safety of the light rail service during this period and to facilitate the smooth transition of personnel. Since January last year, the company has started to take over the maintenance team of MTR (Macau) station, civil engineering maintenance team, ticket team and other work in batches. At the same time, it has also negotiated with MTR (Macau) to take over the work of the vehicle training department from January this year. In addition, some equipment, parts, office supplies and some service procurement have also been directly carried out by the Macau Light Rail Transit since last year.
Macau Light Rail Transit also revealed that in order to cooperate with the relevant takeover tasks, the company has recruited more than 100 employees from MTR (Macau) last year. At the same time, in order to steadily build a local professional rail transit team, the company has continued to promote the localization of light rail personnel.
