The Zhitong Finance App learned that Meta (META.US) said on Tuesday that it will discontinue its workplace-oriented app Workplace as the company shifts its focus to building artificial intelligence and metaverse technology.

The company said Workplace will be decommissioned for customers beginning in June 2026, but Meta will continue to use it as its internal message board, adding that users will continue to access the product until August 2025.

A Meta spokesperson said, “We're going to stop Workplace and focus on building artificial intelligence and metaverse technology, which we believe will fundamentally reshape the way we work. Over the next two years, we'll be providing our Workplace customers with the option to transition to Zoom's (ZM.US) Workvivo product, Meta's only preferred migration partner.”

According to information, the enterprise communication application Workplace was first launched for enterprises in 2016. Its new features include multi-company groups and shared spaces, which allow employees from different organizations to work together.

Meta said the billing and payment arrangements for Workplace customers will remain the same until August of this year.

Workplace currently offers a core plan of $4 per user per month, which can be upgraded with add-ons, starting at $2 per user per month. Unless an organization has a fixed plan, its monthly bill is calculated based on the number of billable users.

The move comes as the social media giant has been investing heavily in artificial intelligence products and the metaverse, raising concerns that the company's soaring costs could affect growth.
