McDonald's looking to hire several thousand employees in the state

McDonald's restaurants in New Mexico are looking to add more than 3,400 new employees to its workforce through September.

Those seeking summer employment are encouraged to apply at jobs.mchire.com or by texting "apply" to 38000 to start an application via text.

Whether it is a part-time job to help save up for a major purchase, a full-time position with flexibility or a first-time job with the goal of gaining valuable work experience, McDonald's has a position for each candidate , according to a company news release.

"People are the heart of our business, and the skills our crew members learn in our restaurants, like responsibility, teamwork and responsiveness, can open the door to a brighter future," Kenric Garcia, local McDonald's owner and operator, said in a news release. "As local business owners, we're committed to empowering our employees and the communities we serve through a variety of educational opportunities as well."

People who work at McDonald's restaurants can earn a high school diploma, take English as a Second Language classes, get tuition assistance and receive free guidance from advisors through Archways to Opportunity, McDonald's education and career advising program, according to the news release. Employees working at restaurants participating in Archways to Opportunity can also receive 100% of the cost of an associate or bachelor's degree from Colorado Technical University reimbursed as well as a free laptop .

Archways to Opportunity has provided support for McDonald's diverse crew member community for more than eight years. More than 50% of workers enrolled in the program are individuals who identify as people of color and about two-thirds are women.

More than 65,000 crew members across the country have been awarded college tuition assistance, according to the news release. More than 1,700 crew members are graduates of the career online high school and more than $185 million has been awarded in high school and college tuition assistance, according to McDonald's.
