Ryugasaki City in Ibaraki Prefecture, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. and Ibaraki Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. signed a “partnership agreement on decarbonization and regional resilience using electric vehicles” on the 9th to utilize electric vehicles (EVs) to realize decarbonization and strengthen the region.

[Background of the conclusion of the agreement]

Ryugasaki City is actively promoting environmental measures, such as global warming countermeasures and plastic reduction activities, with the aim of realizing a decarbonized society. We are also actively working on disaster prevention and disaster countermeasures to promote the SDGs and develop a sustainable and resilient city. As part of these, we are promoting the electrification of official vehicles, such as introducing EVs as official vehicles, and we are also considering cooperation between EVs and solar power generation systems.

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. promotes social change by realizing decarbonization and resilience (disaster countermeasures) through energy management, circular economy, sustainable tourism, regional transportation, and next-generation education, making use of the know-how and networks related to EVs that it has cultivated so far.Japan Electrification Action “Blue Switch”We are promoting it together with domestic sales companies. Aiming to build a zero-emission society through the spread of EVs, we are cooperating with local governments and companies all over the country to contribute to the achievement of SDGs and the development of local communities.

Ryugasaki City, which aims to achieve decarbonization and resilience, agreed with the “Blue Switch” and has decided to conclude this agreement.

[Cooperation items and activities]

(1) Matters relating to the promotion and utilization of EVs

• In order to promote the spread of EVs, Ryugasaki City, Nissan Motor, and Ibaraki Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. aim to raise citizens' environmental and disaster prevention awareness through the use of EVs as “running storage batteries.”

(2) Matters relating to the use of EVs in disasters

• When a power outage due to a disaster occurs in Ryugasaki City, EVs deployed at Ibaraki Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. stores will be lent free of charge in order to utilize EVs as power sources at evacuation centers, etc. designated by the city.

Ryugasaki City, Nissan Motor, and Ibaraki Nissan Motor will promote a decarbonized society through active use of EVs, and will carry out various initiatives based on the conclusion of this agreement, such as environmental and disaster prevention measures. Going forward, we will continue to co-create to realize the decarbonized society that Ryugasaki City aims for, preserve the beautiful natural environment beyond a zero-emission society, and create a clean, livable and sustainable city.
