JTEKT Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Kariya-shi, Aichi; President: Kazuhiro Sato; hereafter “JTEKT”) will be exhibiting at the 2024 Yokohama Human and Car Technology Exhibition (sponsored by the Japan Society of Automotive Engineers) to be held at Pacifico Yokohama from 5/22 to 24. An online exhibition to be held in conjunction with the Yokohama exhibition※1We will also be exhibiting.

Exhibition Overview

JTEKT is particular about “safety first, quality second” and “No. 1 & Only One,” and is developing products that contribute “for the Earth, for the world, and for customers” for a future that continues to expand. At this exhibition, we will introduce products that realize three solution proposals (proposals for earth-friendly mobility), “proposals for reducing the load on logistics drivers”, and “proposals for fun and comfortable travel times” based on the exhibition concept of “The Road Leading to Akarui Mirai.”

Main products exhibited

<Proposals for Earth-friendly Mobility>

1. 2nd generation rack parallel electric power steering (RP-EPS)

By installing a torque sensor on the pinion shaft and transmitting power from the power assist motor directly to the rack shaft via a ball screw mechanism, it is a steering system suitable for medium to large vehicles that reduces power loss due to friction and achieves high steering performance. As vehicles become larger and heavier, the aluminum housing design and speed reducer structure were reviewed to meet the need for miniaturization and weight reduction, and a 22% weight reduction compared to the previous one was achieved. This product is installed on Toyota Motor Corporation's new “Century,” “Alphard,” and “Vellfire.”

2. Newly designed column assist type electric power steering (C-EPS)

A power assist unit is placed in the cabin, and this steering system is suitable for small cars with little space in the engine room. By adopting a high-strength, high-deceleration ratio type speed reducer, the motor can be miniaturized, and a weight reduction of 11% compared to the previous one has been achieved. This product is used in the minivan “E8” manufactured by Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd.

3. JTEKT Ultra Compact Diff with integrated planetary deceleration carrier

It is a product that integrates a planetary deceleration carrier that decelerates the speed of the motor mounted in the eAxle and amplifies driving force, and a differential device that absorbs the rotation difference between the left and right wheels when the vehicle is turning, etc. By arranging the planetary reduction gear and differential gear in the width direction, the overall width dimensions of the eAxle can be shortened and the weight reduced. Furthermore, since the proprietary differential gear combines a mild differential limit function, it creates high-quality driving, and also contributes to improving driving performance with safety and security.

4. “High Pressure Hydrogen Pressure Reducing Valve” for hydrogen engines

It is a high-pressure hydrogen pressure reducing valve mounted on hydrogen engine cars that run by burning hydrogen with an engine instead of fossil fuel. Currently, we are proceeding with development by utilizing core technology for high-pressure hydrogen pressure reducing valves for fuel cell vehicles. Hydrogen has the property that when burned, it reacts with oxygen in the air and becomes water. JTEKT will contribute to the realization of a hydrogen society through the development of high-pressure hydrogen products.

5. JTEKT Ultra Compact Bearing

It is an ultra-narrow bearing with a narrower width of the bearings mounted on eAxle. By providing a hole in the center of the side of the holder based on a high-rigidity composite resin holder, the width of the holder was narrowed to the extreme, and the width of the bearing was narrowed.

6. High Heat-Resistant Lithium-ion Capacitors “Libuddy

It is a lithium-ion capacitor that achieves output density and durability far superior to conventional products by expanding the operating temperature range to -40 to 85°C due to high heat resistance using proprietary technology.
Utilizing the features of ensuring a degree of freedom of mounting by adapting to the temperature requirements of the car interior (-40 to 85°C), high safety (compared to lithium-ion batteries), and slight performance deterioration even when fully charged (maintenance-free), various automobile backup applications (electric power steering (EPS, J-EPICS)), electric brakes, autonomous driving, xEV) will contribute.
Also, Libuddy is an industrial drone where demand is increasing due to logistics etc.By installing it, it supplies large power necessary for posture control during strong winds, and contributes to improving the drone's athletic performance, reducing the load on lithium-ion batteries used as the main power source, and extending the lifespan.

7. Column coaxial steering actuators for commercial vehicles

It is a steering actuator that contributes to AD/ADAS in combination with commercial vehicles equipped with hydraulic power steering. Since it is mounted on the column section, interference with the floor surface does not occur even in low-floor commercial vehicles, and it can be used in small-scale modifications compared to floor surface remodeling. It enables AD/ADAS compatibility for all commercial vehicles, including existing cars, and is compatible with lane keep assist equivalent to Autonomous Driving level 2, contributing to reducing the load on commercial vehicle drivers and improving safety.

<Proposals for a fun and comfortable travel time>

8.Pairdriver(pair drivers)

It is a control technology that seamlessly harmonizes the autonomous driving system with the driver's steering wheel operation. This allows the driver to intuitively feel the intent of the system via the steering wheel. Also, when the driver's steering wheel operation is dangerous, resistance (reaction force) is applied to that operation, and when the driver wants to drive himself, guidance that is close to him can be performed, etc., so movement according to the driver's steering intention can be realized. Pairdriverimproves the usability of applications related to steering (ADAS function) and contributes to safe and comfortable autonomous driving.
