Hormel Foods Recalls Some Contaminated Planters Nuts In Five States
Hormel Food Sales, a unit of Hormel Foods Corporation (NYSE:HRL), voluntarily recalled two varieties of Planters products produced at one of its facilities in April.

According to a news release from the company, the products are being recalled "out of an abundance of caution" because they have the potential to be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes.

Hormel says the recall impacts two retailers in five states and that there have been no reports of illness related to this recall.

The products were only shipped to Publix distribution warehouses in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and North Carolina, as well as Dollar Tree distribution warehouses in South Carolina and Georgia.

"No other sizes, varieties, or other packaging configurations of Planters brand products are included in this recall," Hormel said in the news release.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, listeriosis is a serious infection usually caused by eating food contaminated with the bacterium listeria monocytogenes. The CDC reports that an estimated 1,600 people get listeriosis each year, and about 260 die.
