Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Technology, Consumer Services and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.85%, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.91%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 1.51%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which rose 4.31% or 7.39 points to trade at 178.85 at the close. Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) added 3.20% or 5.72 points to end at 184.72 and Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) was up 2.29% or 3.88 points to 173.18 in late trade.
Biggest losers included 3M Company (NYSE:MMM), which lost 1.66% or 1.63 points to trade at 96.81 in late trade. Honeywell International Inc (NASDAQ:HON) declined 0.85% or 1.66 points to end at 193.64 and Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) shed 0.83% or 1.26 points to 149.92.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Howmet Aerospace Inc (NYSE:HWM) which rose 15.44% to 77.09, Paramount Global Class B (NASDAQ:PARA) which was up 13.05% to settle at 13.86 and Moderna Inc (NASDAQ:MRNA) which gained 12.68% to close at 125.59.
The worst performers were Etsy Inc (NASDAQ:ETSY) which was down 15.06% to 59.24 in late trade, Qorvo Inc (NASDAQ:QRVO) which lost 14.50% to settle at 95.67 and Huntington Ingalls Industries Inc (NYSE:HII) which was down 11.50% to 245.19 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were XBP Europe Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:XBP) which rose 66.41% to 2.18, Vintage Wine Estates Inc (NASDAQ:VWE) which was up 55.17% to settle at 0.36 and Nuwellis Inc (NASDAQ:NUWE) which gained 54.89% to close at 0.21.
The worst performers were Xpel Inc (NASDAQ:XPEL) which was down 38.91% to 32.86 in late trade, Plutonian Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:PLTN) which lost 30.60% to settle at 6.35 and Accuray Incorporated (NASDAQ:ARAY) which was down 29.03% to 1.54 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2177 to 663 and 68 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2253 rose and 1097 declined, while 112 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 4.61% to 14.68.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.00% or 0.10 to $2,310.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.04% or 0.03 to hit $79.03 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.28% or 0.23 to trade at $83.67 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.17% to 1.07, while USD/JPY fell 0.47% to 153.74.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.35% at 105.25.
