Although the US election has yet to begin, the Trump team's policy tendencies have begun to be tracked by the media.
According to media reports, Trump's think tank is secretly drafting proposals that would seek to weaken the independence of the Federal Reserve if the former president wins a second term.
The report said that the proposal is about 10 pages long and outlines a policy vision for the central bank. For example, they argue that the president himself should participate in setting interest rates, and suggest putting the relevant decisions of the Federal Reserve under review by the White House, and using the Treasury more vigorously to counterbalance the central bank.
Proponents of the proposal also claim that if Trump returns to the White House, he will have the right to remove Powell as chairman of the Federal Reserve System before his four-year term ends in 2026.
According to other media reports, the trade representative during the Trump administration, Lighthizer and his staff are considering formulating a policy to depreciate the dollar with a view to boosting US exports and reducing the trade deficit. This policy will have a high priority.
In addition, there are media reports that Trump's think tank is still considering punishing countries that have left the US dollar system and reduced their use of US dollars. Possible measures include restricting exports, establishing itself as a currency manipulator, and imposing tariffs.
