Procter & Gamble earnings, Fed, Volkswagen: What to Watch

Procter & Gamble Company (PG) will report its fiscal third-quarter earnings the morning of Friday, April 19, with investors keeping a close eye on its product pricing and demand in China's consumer market. American Express (AXP) is also among companies set to report first-quarter results tomorrow.

Chicago Fed President Austan Goolsbee will be delivering opening remarks at a conference on Friday.

Lastly, Volkswagen (VWAGY) factory workers in Tennessee will vote on whether to unionize with the United Auto Workers (UAW) labor union.

JULIE HYMAN: It's time now for what to watch Friday, April 19. On the earnings front, we'll get some color on the consumer with Procter & Gamble gearing up to report its third quarter results before the open. Investors should keep an eye out for cost pressures and word of further price increases. An update on demand recovery in China for the consumer goods company will also be a point to watch for traders.

MYLES UDLAND: And we'll get another pulse on the consumer from American Express. Those earnings out before the open. Investors will be looking for the spending habits and any signs of stress among Amex's core high-end consumer base. And oil services company SLB, formerly known as Schlumberger, also set to report their results. Investors eyeing the pulse of the oil market. We've seen energy stocks really serving as the best-performing sector over the last few weeks.

JULIE HYMAN: And turning to the Federal Reserve, more Fed speak. Chicago Fed President Austan Goolsbee will share remarks at a conference on Friday morning. Goolsbee will participate in a moderated Q&A. Investors will keep watch on any remarks on the path for monetary policy.

MYLES UDLAND: And on the labor front, voting is set to come to a close for Volkswagen plant workers in Tennessee. The vote is set to determine whether workers will organize with the UAW, the latest in several efforts the union has made to organize workers at this facility.
