Boeing whistleblower, earnings, Volkswagen: What to Watch

The Boeing (BA) whistleblower which raised concerns about the manufacturer's assembly of its 787 Dreamliner is set to testify before the US Senate on Wednesday, April 17.

Bank earnings continue to roll out as US Bancorp (USB), Citizens Financial Group (CFG), and Discover Financial Services (DFS) are scheduled to report first-quarter results tomorrow, among other companies.

Lastly, Volkswagen (VWAGY) workers at a plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee will vote on whether to organize with the United Auto Workers (UAW) union.

JOSH LIPTON: What to watch Wednesday, April 17. Boeing's safety crisis heading to Capitol Hill. Whistleblowers set to testify in front of a Senate subcommittee tomorrow about manufacturing shortcuts on Boeing's 777 and 787 Dreamliner jets. The whistleblower telling NBC News in an interview recorded before that hearing that all 787 jets should be grounded.

JULIE HYMAN: Moving over to earnings. We'll get more bank earnings tomorrow with US Bank Corp, Citizens Financial, and Discover Financial Services. US Bank announcing first-quarter results for 2024.

One analyst noting that they're expecting a drop in net interest income. That's a trend that we've seen with many of the banks so far this season. And also reporting tomorrow, IBM, Abbott Laboratories, Prologis, and Las Vegas Sands.

JOSH LIPTON: And finally, Volkswagen workers at a plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee will start voting on whether to organize with the United Auto Workers union. Volk could give the UAW its first major win outside of the big three in Detroit-- automakers General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler's parent Stellantis.
