Peninsula Energy Ltd (ASX:PEN, OTCQB:PENMF) has strengthened its board and management team with the appointments of David Coyne as a non-executive director and Willie Bezuidenhout as interim chief financial officer (CFO).
The executives begin these roles at an important time for Peninsula as the company works towards the restart of uranium production at the flagship, 100%-owned Lance Projects in Wyoming, USA.
David Coyne returns
David Coyne, whose appointment is effective from May 1, 2024, returns to Peninsula after previously serving in a number of executive positions with the company.
He was previously finance director, CFO and joint company secretary between 2013 and 2020 and served as a non-executive director from July 2020 until October 2021.
“To enhance strategic vision“
Peninsula’s chairman John Harrison said: “On behalf of the company, I enthusiastically welcome David back in the capacity of non-executive director" and his "expertise and leadership will undoubtedly enhance our strategic vision as we move towards production.”
Coyne is a CPA and a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He is an experienced CFO and company director with more than 30 years of experience across the mining, oil & gas and engineering & construction sectors within Australia and internationally.
"David’s extensive knowledge of the company’s history, assets, people and the uranium in-situ recovery industry in general establish him as a particularly well-qualified individual for the role," Harrison added.
Experienced executive
Bezuidenhout's tenure as interim CFO came into effect on April 5, 2024, and his appointment is in line with Peninsula’s projected near-term business activities and objectives.
An internationally experienced mining industry executive, he replaces Rachel Rees who resigned as executive director of Finance and Corporate Affairs, CFO and joint company secretary effective April 4, 2024.
Bezuidenhout is the company’s vice president of Corporate Development and was previously chief executive officer of Peninsula’s South African operations. He is a Chartered Accountant (SA) and holds a MBA from the North-West University.
Interim appointment
Peninsula’s managing director and chief executive officer Wayne Heili said: “One of the distinguishing aspects of Peninsula has always been the depth of our corporate and operational teams.
"I am extremely pleased that Willie has agreed to serve the company in this interim capacity. Willie has demonstrated great competency in contributing to our corporate goals and objectives.
"His strategic leadership abilities, experience, deep familiarity and strong working relationships with the entire corporate group will allow him to seamlessly step into this role as we take the time necessary to properly evaluate suitably qualified internal and external candidates to fill the role on a permanent basis.”
