Among them, 27 genetically-modified corn and 3 genetically-modified soybean varieties passed the preliminary examination, involving many listed companies including Dabeinong, Longping Hi-Tech, Denghai Seed Industry, and Fengle Seed Industry. This is the second batch of genetically-modified corn and soybean varieties to pass the initial review after the first batch of 51 genetically-modified corn and soybean varieties passed the national variety certification at the end of 2023.

According to the “Regulations on the Administration of Genetically Modified Biosafety in Agriculture”, after obtaining a biosafety certificate, genetically modified varieties must pass variety certification and obtain a license for seed production and operation before they can enter commercial production and application. The first batch of genetically-modified corn and soybean seed production and operation licenses were approved and issued, and the second batch of genetically-modified corn and soybean varieties passed the preliminary review, further advancing the commercialization process of genetically modified organisms and further accelerating the development of the biological breeding industry. As commercialization gradually begins, the Matthew effect on the industry may become more prominent in the future. Traditional seed varieties are gradually being upgraded. On December 4, 2023, Fengle Seed Industry replied on Interactive Easy that the company's wholly-owned subsidiary, Tonglu, Sichuan, has passed the approval of a genetically-modified corn variety called Iron 391K, and the approved varieties are mainly sold in the Northeast and Northwest markets.
