KUALA LUMPUR (March 15): KPJ Healthcare Bhd said Datuk Md Arif Mahmood will step down as its non-independent and non-executive chairman upon the completion of his two-year tenure on March 31.

In a statement on Friday, KPJ said the 61-year-old assumed the position of chairman on April 1, 2022, just as the country was transitioning into the endemic phase of Covid-19.

“Under his strategic leadership, KPJ Healthcare was able to capitalise on its strength and capture emerging opportunities, resulting in its highest recorded revenue of RM2.9 billion in 2022 and RM3.4 billion in 2023,” the group added.

KPJ president cum managing director Chin Keat Chyuan said Md Arif had guided the group with strategic foresight, exploring new avenues of growth and innovating beyond conventional practices in the face of fierce competition.

Md Arif, meanwhile, expressed trust that KPJ would continue to reinvent itself, redefining the healthcare industry by leveraging the vast network of specialist hospitals, experienced staff, and dedicated consultants.

In its bourse filing, KPJ said Md Arif would be leaving to pursue other interests, adding that the announcement regarding the appointment of the new chairman will be made in due course.

KPJ’s share price closed higher by four sen or 2.2% at RM1.83 on Friday, bringing the company’s market capitalisation to RM8.28 billion.
