Whilst it may not be a huge deal, we thought it was good to see that the CoreCard Corporation (NYSE:CCRD) Chairman, James Strange, recently bought US$76k worth of stock, for US$10.80 per share. Although the purchase is not a big one, by either a percentage standpoint or absolute value, it can be seen as a good sign.

CoreCard Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In fact, the recent purchase by James Strange was the biggest purchase of CoreCard shares made by an insider individual in the last twelve months, according to our records. That implies that an insider found the current price of US$11.60 per share to be enticing. Of course they may have changed their mind. But this suggests they are optimistic. If someone buys shares at well below current prices, it's a good sign on balance, but keep in mind they may no longer see value. The good news for CoreCard share holders is that insiders were buying at near the current price.

While CoreCard insiders bought shares during the last year, they didn't sell. The average buy price was around US$12.10. This is nice to see since it implies that insiders might see value around current prices. You can see a visual depiction of insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last 12 months, below. If you click on the chart, you can see all the individual transactions, including the share price, individual, and the date!

Insider Ownership

Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. CoreCard insiders own about US$25m worth of shares. That equates to 26% of the company. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
