Woodbridge, Ontario-based Summer Fresh Salads Inc. recalled its Wegmans Harissa Hummus Topped With Harissa, according to the U.S Food and Drug Administration or FDA.
The affected salad may contain undeclared sesame, a known allergen.
The recalled 10.5-ounce product is packaged in a clear plastic package with top, side, and bottom labels marked with lot #240239 and lot #240309 with an expiration date of 03/19/2024 and 03/26/2024 stamped on the side label.
The called-back salad was sold in select Wegmans stores in Washington D.C., Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia between January 29 and February 2, 2024.
Those who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to sesame may run the risk of serious allergic reactions if they consume these products.
So far, the company has not received any report of illnesses related to the impacted salad.
The recall was initiated when it was determined that the sesame-containing product was distributed in packaging that did not reveal its presence, which was caused by a labeling error.
The agency is urging customers to not consume this product and to return to the place of purchase for a full refund.
In similar recalls, Syracuse, New York-based Byrne Dairy, Inc., last month, recalled Byrne Dairy Mighty Fine Chocolate Ice Cream in half-gallon cartons as they may contain undeclared peanuts, a known allergen.
