Singapore's MPA selects consortium for electric-vessel charging trials

SINGAPORE, Jan 10 (Reuters) - The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said on Wednesday it has selected a consortium to carry out a trial for the charging of electric harbour craft over the next two to three years.

Pyxis Energy, Pyxis Maritime, and SP Mobility will install a vessel charging point at Marina South Pier for trial between March 2024 and March 2026, with an option to extend it by another year, MPA said in a statement.

The projects are part of MPA's plans to roll out charging infrastructure for electric harbour craft in Singapore from 2025, as it looks to transit away from fossil fuels and reduce emissions.

The MPA has mandated that all new harbour craft operating in Singapore will have to be fully electric, be capable of using B100 biofuel, or be compatible with net-zero fuels like hydrogen from 2030.

Separately, MPA will also work with a unit of Singapore-listed Seatrium to develop its mobile charging concept, and Yinson Electric, part of Malaysia's Yinson Holdings, on its proposal for a high-power charger. (Reporting by Cassandra Yap; Editing by Varun H K)
