08:05 AM EST, 02/07/2023 (MT Newswires) -- Stantec (STN.TO, STN) Tuesday morning said it was selected to be the prime consultant for a global logistics center in southern California, with the Canadian engineering and design specialists advising real estate developer Highland Fairview on the $25 billion project.

The companies did not provide financial details of the Stantec contract.

Once complete in 2030, Stantec and Highland Fairview said the new, net-zero carbon emissions facility will be one of the largest logistics and business parks in North America, containing more than 40 million square feet of total space over 2,600 acres and also including retail shops, cafes, restaurants and craft breweries in addition to the shipping facilities.

Stantec will initially focus on civil engineering, architecture, geomatics, energy, water and wastewater design as well as urban planning, mobility and funding consulting.

Design work already is underway, with construction slated to begin later this year. The project is expected to grow by around six million square feet annually over the next seven years.

Stantec shares were little changed in US premarket trade, rising less than 0.1% after a 0.6% decline during Monday's regular session.
