04:48 AM EST, 02/03/2023 (MT Newswires) -- Singapore's Straits Times Index erased yesterday's losses to end the week on a positive note, following mostly gains in US and Europe markets on hopes about upcoming earnings from Apple and other teach giants, after Facebook parent Meta delivered better-than-expected results.
During the day, the benchmark index ranged between 3,358.46 and 3,383.29, ending 0.61% or 20.61 points higher at 3,384.29.
In domestic news, business activity in Singapore's private sector returned to expansion in January, thanks to a renewed growth of private sector output driven by higher demand at the start of the year.
In corporate news, CapitaLand Ascendas REIT's (SGX:A17U) shares rose 2% on Friday's close, as the trust posted a distribution per unit of SG$0.07925 for the second half of 2022, up 4.3% from SG$0.07598 in the year-ago period.
CapitaLand China Trust (SGX:AU8U) closed nearly 2% lower on Friday, as the trust booked a lower distribution per unit of SG$0.034 in the second half of 2022, compared with SG$0.045 in the year-ago period.
Shares of Nanofilm Technologies (SGX:MZH) dropped 7% on Friday's close, as the company disclosed that it expects its net profit to drop by 30% and its revenue to decrease by 4% in the 12 months ended Dec. 31, 2022.
