01:58 AM EST, 01/10/2023 (MT Newswires) -- Sembcorp Marine (SGX:S51) has delivered the last of three fully battery-operated roll-on/roll-off passenger ferries to Norwegian ferry operator Norled.
The vessel, Leikanger, is the third and final roll-on/roll-off passenger ferry built for Norled by Sembcorp Marine, according to a late Monday release. The delivery of the unit follows the handover of the sister vessels Hella and Dragsvik in March and July of last year.
Leikanger is a zero-emission vessel, based on a proprietary design developed by Sembcorp Marine's unit, LMG Marin AS. It runs on lithium-ion batteries charged by hydro-electric energy power. The vessel can also operate in hybrid mode using combined battery-diesel power as an alternative.
The vessel will be deployed on Norled's shortsea Hella-Vangsnes-Dragsvik connections in Norway, the release said.
