IT Firms, Game Operators Lead Asian Equities Sharply Higher

11:02 AM EST, 01/09/2023 (MT Newswires) -- Shares of IT companies and online game operators led Asian equities sharply higher in Monday trading as American depositary receipts of Asian stocks were up 1.34% to 1,596,27 on the S&P Asia 50 ADR Index.

In North Asia, the gainers were led by consumer lending firm LexinFintech (LX) and online game developer The9 (NCTY), which surged 24% and 12% respectively. They were followed by game live-streaming platform HUYA (HUYA) and ad agency iClick Interactive Asia Group (ICLK), which climbed 7% and 8.6% higher respectively.

The decliners in North Asia were led by educational services provider Four Seasons Education (FEDU) and video-sharing site Bilibili (BILI), which fell 16% and 4.9% respectively. They were followed by online consumer finance platform Qudian (QD) and ecommerce company JD.com (JD), which dropped 4% and 1.8% respectively.

In South Asia, the gainers were led by IT firm Sify Technologies (SIFY) and telecommunications operator PLDT (PHI), which advanced 8.1% and 2.4% respectively. They were followed by IT firms Wipro (WIT) and Infosys (INFY), which rose 2.6% and 2.2% respectively.

The decliners in South Asia were led by biotech firm ASLAN Pharmaceuticals (ASLN), which lost 1.3%, followed by digital entertainment company Sea Limited (SE), which was down 3.8%.
