Favorable turn of events for Inotiv, Inc. (NASDAQ:NOTV) insiders who've lost US$369k to date on a US$1.7m purchase

Insiders who bought US$1.7m worth of Inotiv, Inc. (NASDAQ:NOTV) stock in the last year recovered part of their losses as the stock rose by 22% last week. However, the purchase is proving to be an expensive wager as insiders are yet to get ahead of their losses which currently stand at US$369k since the time of purchase.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

Inotiv Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The insider James Harkness made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$766k worth of shares at a price of US$19.74 each. That means that even when the share price was higher than US$16.55 (the recent price), an insider wanted to purchase shares. Their view may have changed since then, but at least it shows they felt optimistic at the time. We always take careful note of the price insiders pay when purchasing shares. As a general rule, we feel more positive about a stock if insiders have bought shares at above current prices, because that suggests they viewed the stock as good value, even at a higher price.

In the last twelve months insiders purchased 78.13k shares for US$1.7m. But they sold 3.06k shares for US$132k. In total, Inotiv insiders bought more than they sold over the last year.
